a friends daughter will be making games when she gets out of school, running a lot of 3d programs. she's also a gamer. she was asking what kind of pc would be best. she's looking around $400 for a cpu. the 6-core i7-5820 or a 4-core i7-6700k. i'm thinking the 6-core would be better for her??? she also said she wanted 16gb of ram. i'm thinking 32gb for what she wants to do would be better. and storage, is a 500gb ssd good enough or will she need a lot more?
i don't know anything about making games. i'm assuming it's like video editing so the more cores and ram would be better.
any help would be appreciated, thanks

It's all about the money, Kenny. If shes's building her own, she can save some money. We've basically copied set ups from these people for heavy video and 3D graphic work

i have a 6600k a z170 deluxe, a 580 gtx (old i know), H110i cooler, 800w Corsiar PSU modular w/ the flat cables, 760T Graphite case, 256GB 950 Pro M.2 NVMe SSD for OS, and 16gb DDR4 Gskill. In OSX (hackintosh) i get almost 17000 geekbench score. and ITS FAST with the ssd. I've had my 6600k OC'd to about 4.8 ghz. Before temps got a little too hot for my taste. all in all the build was 1400ish (minus the 580, which was 90 on ebay).

Is she a programmer or an artist? I'm guessing artist making models & textures from what you said above.
The things that Gimp and Nightmare said are absolutely 5000% correct. Spend as much as possible on the Motherboard, CPU and Power-supply as you can justify. I would suggest saving money on RAM and using that cash to get a really good 1000W Power supply. Then things like graphics and memory can be further expanded when they are actually needed. (This is why a good power supply is critical to begin with, as those future RAM/GFX/SSD expansions start to suck more and more juice)
PS: 16Gig-RAM is waaaAAAAAaaaaAAAAAAAaaaaay plenty.
