There could very well be multiple discussion threads about music, but I'd like to make this one your five favorite bands/artists. Could be your current five, could be an all-time five, whatever floats your boat. I'll post mine in the morning, when my brain is less fuzzy.

Off the top of my head come a bunch of prog-rock/metal bands. Rush, Breaking Benjamin, 30 Seconds to Mars, to name a few.

All-time for me would be Rush, Primus, Arcade Fire, Amorphis, and Squirrel Nut Zippers

I listen to every type of music pretty much, but I do have a random mix that I can always listen to over and over again. Eminem, Linkin Park, Jack Johnson, Volbeat and Metallica.

Less off the top of my head are U2, Mudvayne, Boston, Miracle of Sound, Ludwig van Beethoven, Karl Maria von Weber, and probably some more that I'm too embarrassed to admit because it would label me as an uncultured swine.

It's okay Arty. We know you still listen to Kids Bop and Barney Sing-A-Longs. There is nothing wrong with it.

Fine. Thousand Foot Krutch, Chipzel, Adventure Club, the Glitch Mob, Sub Focus, Celldweller, Jaejoong, Brand X, Rise Against, the Chemical Brothers, Ghost Town...the list goes on. If you recognize more than two of those I'll be surprised.

Managed to forget Zeppelin, the Who, R.E.M., Indigo Girls, Peter Gabriel/Phil Collins/Genesis. I'm sure there's more.

mountain, black sabath, grand funk railroad, blondie, led zeppelin. so many more but at the top of my list, which in my opinion I consider were the best and most influential were the BEATLES.

I'll see your two and raise you four. I've at least heard of Thousand Foot Krutch, and I love the Glitch Mob. Sub Focus, Celldweller, Rise against, and the Chemical Brothers also find themselves in my rotation. You have an acceptably diverse taste in music.

Not very many people can pull this off, but these women have proven it over an over again (hence, they were chosen for this performance).  The boys seem pretty overwhelmed....looks like Jimmy wants to jump down on stage and join them.

You know it's good when Robert's eyes tear up.

Speaking of which, my dad had his album collection stolen from storage (full Zeppelin, Rush, Kiss, Ozzy, etc sets) a few months back, so I picked up a bunch to give to him for Christmas.  I then picked up a turntable/stereo combo (cheap set) just to make sure they all sounded okay.  Yeah, bad idea.  Now we're going to be sharing those albums.  Looking around for a good deal on an old turntable now.

PS Mint Zeppelin albums are pricey.   Razz

I'm having a hard time finding anything for under $150 around here.  Garage sale season is over so I just have to keep an eye out on craigslist and such.

We have a Victrola in the basement with about a thousand steel needles laying around in it. Also some LPs and 78's in the storage compartment. Really old shit. The spring in it doesn't wind the motor anymore but I bet it can be repaired.

I've gotten quite a few LP's, well, my parents do, but they are stored at my place sooooo.....mine. I wish I still had that player I used to have. It was pretty huge, but played well. I don't even know what happened to it. Looked kinda like This One, only had sliding doors in the center and slightly different styling. Man why was my younger self so stoopid lol.

Went to some garage sales and the flea market (Hartville, Tater) and snagged a decent turntable, receiver and some better speakers.  Also raked in probably 100-ish albums including some Floyd, Journey, Johnny Cash, Clapton, & Beatles.  Albums averaged out at ~ $1 a pop, which I am surprised.

Found a Kenwood KD-47F in the trash next to the curb. Picked it up and put a new stylus in it (that was the only problem, that and the belt and stuff needed put back together). Plays a charm. I have an onkyo TX-SR606 reciever with paradigm front bookshelf speakers, a MK powered subwoofer, a Optimus center channel, and rear JBL satellites. I also have 2 cassette decks, a Harman/Kardon CD291 and an Onkyo TA-2140 (ebay and yard sale finds), and a Yamaha C-80 preamp. It gets input to the line in on my X-fi sound card then back out to my reciever through multi channel input. I like a lot of older music. I hate today's music, some rock bands are ok, metal, etc. But i mostly hate the shit they play on the radio. Just total shit. Give me some genesis, or fleetwood mac, Foreigner, etc I'm happy. Also like trance/progressive dubstep, electronic music.

You'll be happy to know I picked up a few Blood Sweat and Tears albums the other weekend.  I'm still going through and cleaning all the albums I got.  I've been doing ~5 every other day.  It's a long process.   Confused

As long as it's not Justin fagger, Dicki Minaj, or Wrong direction, or any of that mainstream bullshit they play on the radio, i'm fine with it, oh and country is total shit too. Lovin' the 80's and the classic rock.

Did I mention...

Rush - for so many reasons from their unsurpassed musicianship to their philosophical leanings and their ongoing legacy...plus, they can still kick ass after 40+ albums and being nearly 60 years old.

Paul Simon - for being one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time and recording some legendary classics with Art G.

Cat Stevens - for being another one of the greatest singer/songwriters of that genre.  His songs were very hippy-like without being too sappy.

Dire Straights - Mark Knopfler's guitar playing style just speaks to me.

The Indigo Girls - Beautiful two part harmony and contemporary subject matter.  Love their folk roots.

The whole Hair movie soundtrack.  :)

I could list five more that I like just as much depending on the day....

Hey Nicky, do you know this guy?

Rush came to Oklahoma last month. Had I known it was likely to be their last tour, I would have made a concerted effort to go. But I didn't know that, and my wife just had our son, and I didn't think it'd be a good time to jet for an evening...

I think my aforementioned all-time five still stand, but five more currently played artists are:
Bad Religion
Faith No More
Crystal Castles
Broken Bells
Deftones

Congratz on on having a son, by the way!

Hey, Roentgen, I can relate to some classic R&B and pretty much all the stuff Motown was crankin out in the 60s. Smokey Robinson or the Temptations.  Marvin Gay was too cool.
