Been trying for days to get this to run, keeps saying directx encountered an unrecoverable error, anyone got any ideas. Running directx 11 on windows 8.1

hi spray. i believe cod2 is a dx9 game. try updating your dx9

also, run it in xp compatibility mode. i'm running win10 no problems with it.

One problem I have encountered is trying to run it on Win8.1 without USB headphones. It works fine with them connected, but fails to launch if I haven't plugged them in before launching, or if I try non-usb headpones.

I can run it just fine in Win7/Win8/Win8.1/Win10.
The only thing I have to remember in anything above Win7 is to be sure that USB headphones are connected and to run as administrator.

DX11 is the latest update, i clicked your link and it basically tells me to piss off as I'm not running windows 2000 or XP lol, tried compatibility mode for XP sp3 and still the same, gonna see if i can reinstall Directx.

yep plug in a usb headset OR usb webcam. either works and gets rid of the error.
